World Series Game 7 Draws 51M Audience Members Across the US, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The nail-biting 11-inning matchup where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run drew a total over 50 million viewers in the United States, Canada, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball stated this is the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 edition showdown between the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game averaged 27.33M viewers on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent improvement compared to the last finale between the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game finished in 13th position.

Global Audience Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game averaged 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a single network in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series averaged 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the complete US viewership was 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew over 8 million viewers, an eight percent rise over the previous year and the network’s best playoff performance since the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the World Series was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
